Son and student of the great yoga master T Krishnamacharya, TKV Desikachar is now one of the world's leading authorities on yoga. Starting his career as an engineer, he was inspired by the teachings of his father and became his student in the 1960's. He remained his student for over thirty years until T Krishnamacharya's death in 1989. He founded the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in 1976, a non-profit yoga center, to share and propagate the teachings of his great teacher.

Teaching regularly both within and outside the country, TKV Desikachar, has come to be recognized as an authority in yoga, participating in many international conventions and conferences. He has authored numerous books and contributed to many magazines and newspapers all over the world.

His books include the "Health, Healing and Beyond", "The Heart of Yoga: Developing a Personal Practice". He has also recently authored the first ever translation of the classical yoga text "Yogayajnavalkya Samhita". He has also co-authored with his son Kausthub, a book titled "Vedic Chant Companion". His last work "The Viniyoga of Yoga", co-authored with Kausthub and Frans Moors, deals with the application of asana and pranayama to various needs.
